Entanglements

Entanglements
I did not get much knit on my Entanglements sock.  I did the cuff knit. I had myself all set up to do the first twist. I told sweetie that I just wanted to knit 8 rounds (one repeat) of the sock and then it would be time for dinner. I was fumbling through the first cables, I think it will make more sense after a few of them and sweetie comes in and says "have you knit 8 rounds yet? I am hungry". So that was the end of that attempt to figure it out. I have knit a bit more on Surf.  I am determined to get a few of the cable rounds done on my sock today.

As far as  reading goes, I finished last week's Chick Lit beach read and am on to this week's Chick Lit beach read from the library.  Nothing heavy or interesting.  Read it and forget it type books.

Dog Days of Summer

One round
The last stage of the Tour De Sock race is Entanglements.  I love the idea, randomly twist the stitches. But I don't like toe-ups.  I find that they don't fit well in the toe, heel or cuff. (I know a lot of knitters that swear by toe-ups, I respect their right to love them even if I don't) Even the Surprisingly Stretchy (really it should be sloppy) Judy's bind off for socks is not something that looks attractive to me. A cast on cuff fits so much better!  And Kitchner for the toe is so much easier than the fumbling cast on for toe ups!  That is my opinion. I am curious, do you knit socks cuff down or toe up? Why do you prefer that method?

Anyway, I cast on this morning and knit one round. I have still been knitting on my Surf Shawl. It is growing. But it is at the point that it does not look different from last week's photograph, so I just didn't take another pic of it this week.

I just finished "Bird in Hand" by Christina Baker Kline.  I enjoyed reading this book. I belong to an online book swap, Paperback swap.  I joined it years ago as I live in a small town and the library doesn't have a large selection of what I enjoy reading. I understand that they are limited in what they have money to purchase, so am not upset by that.  The Paperback swap used to be free, but they had to start charging a nominal fee to help cover the costs of the website. I am good with that. If you click on the link and join, I get a small referral fee which helps me support my reading habit.

Just Surfing Along

Surf
I am between stages on the Tour de Sock race. I have been knitting on my Surf shawl. For the fifth stage it is a colorwork using mosaic knitting techniques. I love the pattern, and wanted to learn mosaic knitting. But  soon after the cuff I realized that the lovely green variegated yarn had bits of brown in it and the brown contrast didn't contrast with the brown bits in the variegated yarn. It did not look good. I unknit back to the cuff. I think a solid black would work well. I do plan on knitting this design, but not now. I live 75 miles away from the nearest yarn shop and there wasn't time to order something online and still make the deadline. So I put it on hold and went back to Surf. Which is a fun summer knit!

Stage 2 completed!

I finally completed my stage two socks for the Tour De Sock race. I was late. I knew I couldn't make the deadline a couple of days before, so relaxed and didn't worry about it.  The stage three sock pattern is very cool! But very complicated reading so I am not knitting it right now.  I am too confused this week with just my life so adding a pattern like that to my brain isn't going to be a happy thing. I will knit this pattern, just not right now.  The next stage drops on the 1st. I am not near a printer so will not be able to start until the 5th. I may or may not try to knit like crazy to finish that on time. Depends on the pattern (it involves beads).

Close finish

Stage 2
Although I was able to complete the stage one socks for Tour De Sock with days to spare, my stage two socks are still not finished and the deadline was Monday night.  It's ok.  I am not in it to win the race, just to make a donation to Dr.'s without Borders and have fun.  Stage three is beyond my mental comfort zone this week, so I will pass. Gives me plenty of time to finish Two and work on my shawl while waiting for stage four.

This week I am reading Emily and Einstein.  It is okay.

Back in the Groove

It has been a while since I blogged on my knitting blog. I have been participating in the Tour De Sock again. Fun, friendly competition while raising funds for charity. Stage one was released on June 1st. I was able to finish my pair before the deadline.

Twist and Turn
The link to my Ravelry project page is here.

As for reading this week, I got a wonderful book in the mail, "Inspired by the National Parks" By Donna Marcinkowski DeSoto.  Shameless plug: I have an art quilt featured in this wonderful book! You can read about my piece here.

Back in the saddle!

I took a break from blogging over the Holidays. I got a batch of hats knitted up for gifts, but forgot to photograph them. Oh well. On to the new year.

More apples!
I made another 5 apples as a gift for a friend! I have 11 in my bowl and may make one or two more. It has been fun to crochet again!

Extra hat
I had enough leftover yarn  from my batch of hats to make another hat, so I chose to do another Turn a square pattern. It is a fun knit! I may have enough to do one more small hat, great easy project to have on hand for between projects.

Poncho
One of my Ravelry groups is doing a Poncho KAL. Fun group, fun knit! This is Outlier by Laura Aylor. Fun to knit pattern! It is going quickly on large needles.

I am reading a fun chicklit book right now. "Chose the wrong guy, gave him the wrong finger" What a fun title!

Warm Wednesday

Still on an apple binge
I am still making apples. Fun crochet! I am also still on my chick lit book. I have only about a chapter left, but fell asleep while reading last night.

Coasters
I have also been crocheting coasters that are available in my Etsy shop. I had found a fun Christmas colored variegated yarn and thought it would work up well for Holiday coasters.

Karen's Holiday decorations
Today was knitting group at Karen's house. She had her house decked out with all kinds of greenery! So festive!

I am hosting a giveaway on my quilting blog this week.

Winter is coming Wednesday

bowl of apples

apples

I got a bunch of apples done! They are so much fun! I need to take a break from them for a while, but I hope to fill the bowl.

I started a mini poncho for the granddaughter. It will match her mom's poncho that I knit earlier this year.
I am reading more chick lit. Seems to be my vice this year.

Still on the crochet binge!

I am still reading Beautiful Day. More of a summer read, but I enjoy her writing.

Apples
A couple of years ago I saw this Cream and Sugar pattern for apple place card holders. As it was right before Thanksgiving I decided it would be fun for the kids and grands to dress up our table a bit.(we are pretty casual) Anyway, I bought yarn and started to crochet one. Sweetie made sport of the idea so I tossed it in the corner. Now that I am on this crochet binge, I decided to revive the project. I restarted the first one since I had no idea what round I was on and I wasn't that far into the project. Hopefully they will turn out as cute as the photograph on the pattern.

Reusable Gift Bags
I finished all four of the gift bags. I love the pooling on the last one! You never know what you are going to get with variegated yarn.

Coasters
I wanted to make some coasters, so I decided to try granny squares. The larger square is intended for a bottle coaster.
