Telephone Quilt Project

A group of us got together and played the Telephone game. You remember, little girls sit in a circle and one girl whispers into the ear of the next girl something. Then the next girl whispers what she thought she heard to the next girl and so on. We started with a photograph. Then #2 made a quilt inspired by the photograph. #3 made a quilt inspired by #2's quilt, never seeing the photograph. #4 made a quilt inspired by #3's quilt, never seeing the photograph or #2's quilt, and so on. Next post shows the results.

I just use any old nearby pencil to jot down things in my notebook. I made the notebook cover for a different journal book, but it was a bit too small. So I put this notebook in it and it swims a bit. Time to make a new cover.

Clue #1 finished in time! I had made this hard for myself. At first I wasn't going to use the Redwood Forest Shadow yarn. I had some Alpaca Cloud in Horizon (pale blue) which I really wanted to save for Seascape (a knitty.com pattern). But the suggested colorway was something light. While I was in Salt Lake last week, I hit a bead shop (not very good one) and they really didn't have any light blue beads in the size I was looking for. I stopped at a Joann's on my way home (tiny store, not much of anything) and still couldn't find anything to go with Horizon. There is the coolest bead shop in Fairfield, CA that would have just what I was looking for. But I am not driving 800+ miles to get it. Well, I was making it too hard on myself. I am saving the Horizon for the Seascape like I had intended and using the Redwood Forest and bagging the beads. And since I only cast on today, finishing the first clue is a good thing for me. I like how the Redwood Forest is knitting up in this pattern (well, so far anyway) and the earthy color really doesn't lend itself to shiny beads. Should have saved myself some worry and time and just did what my first inclination said to do. Clue #1 finished on time. Reminder to self, go with your first instinct, it is usually right. On to Clue #2.

It always amazes me how some things arrive so fast and others can take so long. I got my Sky's the Limit Summer ATC's today! They were mailed from MA on Friday. 3 days!

This was my first ATC swap. It looks like I wasn't the only one who thought of summer-dragonfly! My card is on the right hand side. I have extras if anyone wants to do a one on one swap. Thanks to Karylee for being the hostess.

Socks

I finished these socks in time for the Sockmania drawing. Unfortunately, I didn't finish the celebration Stole. Oh well.

This is Peaty. He is my excuse for not getting any thing done lately. He is still such a puppy. But I think that he will grow into a very nice dog.

Clue #9 is done. Now I just need to block the stole. It might have to be next week.
I did get the kitchen curtain blocked. I whipstitched the hem and then got it hung. I think that I will change the hanging rod. I didn't make it wide enough to cover the ends of this rod.

I got caught up this week. I had been out of town a week ago and got a little bit behind. Ready to start knitting on Clue #8. This project has been very enjoyable. It is my first laceweight project. I think that I am hooked on lace.

This is why I haven't been able to sew until today. I thought my husband would get the painting finished while I was away for a week teaching at a quilting retreat. It is finished now, tape is down and I sewed! It will be very nice once we get some things hung on the walls.
Behind the closet doors is a ton of stuff. I am almost scared to open them, hopefully everything won't spill out.
My printer isn't good with color. Here are my fabrics, along with my SOTSii swatch. I thought I could use it this month. The color was perfect.
I had intended to use this as the front and put the swatch in the middle.
But then this turned into the front and I decided to ditch the swatch! I still need to quilt a bit and then finish off the edges. Maybe tomorrow. I did find my bead box, so I will go back and do some beading and handstitching on the Jan. TIF.

I finished Clue #4 of SOTSii on Monday. It is a fun knit. Clue#5 comes out tomorrow morning. I am looking forward to it. I have been knitting on the Feather and Fan Shawl in between clues. The rounds are starting to get pretty big

Finally, a photograph of the One Block Wonder! I had the top together before we left CA. Got it quilted in January. I have the blocks all sewn for another one. I will work on it after we get the design wall up in the sewing room. Which will happen after we paint.

My Clue #3 is finished! I am really enjoying this project. I started clue #4 this am. I think that there is a slight error in the chart, an unaccompanied yo. It needs either a decrease or an extra square. I will get it figured out and then continue on. I will be starting the second ball of Shadow on this clue.

Still no picture of the One Block Wonder. I only think about it after Paul leaves for work. Maybe tonight it will happen.

I started on the Feather and Fan shawl from the book "A Gathering of Lace". I am using Knit Picks Shadow in the grape jelly color. It is really moving along! I am enjoying this as much as SOTSii! Because of the circular shape, it is hard to show how the lace is going to look. But I had just switched over to a longer cable and was able to get a picture of the center.

Here is my TIF for January. It isn't quite finished. I was going to do more background quilting, but I didn't like the way it looked. So I asked myself why I felt it needed to be quilted to death? It doesn't. Not every piece needs extensive quilting. I would like to do some beading. Can't find the bead box. I will bead when the box turns up. Time to move on.

This is the "flip side" of my piece. I will have to figure out how I want to add gromets or something to book bind the pieces at the end of the year. I also finished binding the One Block Wonder this am. The binding fabric showed up a couple of days ago. I knew that I had it set aside. I will get a pic of that when my husband gets home. It needs to be held up.

Take it Further Challenge

I decided to go with the color scheme this month. A group that I belonged to in California was doing a journal page project. I had wanted to participate, but then we were moving out of state, so I had to decline. I am going to do all of my TIF pieces journal size. It means that I will be doing a flipside as well. Then I will bind them together into a book. Top photograph, my fabric choices surrounding the color chart. Middle photograph is of my cut strips. Bottom photograph is my partially sewn layout. More sewing today. I am using some rigid interfacing for the batting. I think that it will give the piece the stiffness that I want for the book pages.

I finished some socks for Paul. Size 11's! Note the second photo, I had just enough yarn left to graft the toe. That is cutting it close! The pattern is Parquet socks http://www.knitlist.com/00gift/parquet-socks.htm These are the second pair I have made using this pattern. Has a really nice texture to it.

I also finished machine quilting my One Block Wonder. I got it trimmed, but can't find where I have set aside the binding fabric. I will move on and hopefully it will appear before I give up and use something else.

I finished my first quilt of 2008! I have had the top finished for a long time. It was in line to be finished, and then I needed it for a class sample so I quilted on Tuesday, bound on Wed. It is about 40 inches square.

I signed up for the Take it Further Challenge. She posted the concept, on Tuesday. I need to take my inspiration from someone that I admire. Hmm. I need to let that ferment for a while. A couple of ideas come to mind. I will let it rest for a bit.

Snowy day

Finally, I finished handquilting something in 2007! It is a First Sat. Sampler from 2002/03. I have had it in progress for a long time. I also did my swatch for SOTSii. I am hoping to get a few more small quilt tops machine quilted this week.

I have joined the Take it Further challenge. Sharon posts a concept at the first of the month and we have to interpet it somehow in fiberart. I am looking forward to this.

I finally started to dig around in the Ravelry. Lots of wonderful inspiration! I did start to list some of my projects. I learned how to use flickr.
I am coming along on my kitchen curtain. I have two and a half repeats done, need five and then the hem. Pics will be coming soon.

Count down to T-Day

I finished my November Sockmania pattern way early! It helps that I was making them for a friend with small feet. I love it when the color pools in a spiral pattern.

On the curtain front: I decided to start over. I made some errors. I also have a smaller window than the pattern. I didn't really want to have it so gathered, so starting with fewer stitches will make it a bit easier to manage. I am to the max on space on the needles.

Halloween

The wedding is over! Everything went well. I was able to get the wedding quilt (English Wedding Ring) finished in time. I also got the Pizza quilt finished (Scrappy Plaids) finished. I also finished the sockmania socks for October. I gave them to Serita.

Tuesdays are yucky

I finished machine quilting the EWR (English Wedding Ring) yesterday. Now my glitch is that I don't have the right fabric for the binding. Means a trip to Salty. Vicky needs to do some errands there anyway, so we will make a day of it. Haven't gotten any farther on the curtains. But I almost have my first October Sockmania sock finished. It will be cute.

I finished the Halloween socks. I have been working on the kitchen curtain, have about a third of it done. It seems to take forever to finish each row. I did cast on for the next Sockmania pattern. I will do this one top down.

I am late again. I thought that I could make it into the sockmania drawing but I am not finished with the socks. Maybe next month. I will have them finished tonight. I will move on to the kitchen curtains. A free pattern from Knitpicks using the sport shine cotton yarn.
